My silver clay journey...
Back in 2004 I discovered metal clay almost by accident on a beginner’s traditional silver work course. I was intrigued and signed up for a class. As soon as I touched the clay, I knew that it would allow me to create the things that were in my head in a way that traditional silver work techniques could not. I took every class I could while still working full time and spent my holidays at metal clay conferences or practicing. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills and met some wonderful people who share my passion for metal clay. I’ve found my artistic voice and best of all, passed on the love of the material to hundreds of other people. And I’m still learning!
Favourite silver clay technique…
I love creating free form, three dimensional things and pod forms feature quite often. Much of my work in recent years has involved making hollow or open forms which include tiny silver people with a story to tell.
What excites me most about silver clay...
The ability to create any shape or form you can imagine in a couple of hours on your kitchen table is what excites me. The fact that the form then becomes solid silver is a bonus!
